Give Yourself the Gift of Self-Awareness. (Like the jelly-of-the-month club, it’s the gift that keeps on giving!)

Here’s the holiday truth we forget…

No one needs more clutter or stuff.
Your home doesn’t need to be a Hallmark movie worthy.

You and the people you care about, need memories and laughter.
They need YOU. Your presence, your real, imperfect, beautiful self.

And yet… every holiday season, so many of us slip right back into the same loop:

Do more. Buy more. Perfect more. Prove more.

We hustle ourselves into exhaustion trying to create “holiday magic,” when the magic is never in the amount of gifts, matching bows, or the eleventh Target run.

It’s always in how we show up. We ALWAYS get to choose this.

Are you creating a December you’ll want to remember?
Or a December you’ll need to recover from?

How My Holiday Perfectionist Hustle Was Born

Growing up, the holidays were a performance.

The decorations were on point.

The presents plentiful and perfectly wrapped with the perfect bow.

The house spotless. The food was abundant and flawless.

Our holidays were beautiful in many ways, but they also came with stress, sleepless nights, and those familiar annual fights.

Without realizing it, I carried these perfectionist patterns straight into my own family.

  • Only I was allowed to decorate the Christmas tree because every Hallmark ornament had a “proper” place. (Yes, Tinkerbell must be placed at the top because she’s flying.)
  • Same with the Christmas cookies. Creative messiness was unacceptable! “Let’s make them gorgeous kids and get them done!”
  • Shopping frantically, racking up credit cards to make everyone feel loved and not slighted.
  • Measuring my worth by how much I bought, planned, or perfected

In my heart, I wanted magical memories.

The truth?

Instead of enjoying the holiday season, I dreaded it.

My perfectionist patterns were creating memories of pressure, regret from overspending and a version of me drained of joy, peace, and honestly…my presence.

And it was doing the same to my family.

How Self-Awareness Changes Your Holiday Season

So what finally changed?

It wasn’t a new budget or boundaries. And it wasn’t the way everything looked on the outside.

It was self-awareness, the moment I finally stopped long enough to realize I was re-creating the holiday stress I often experienced growing up.

And I had a moment of truth:

“I don’t want this to be our family holiday story.”

I wanted laughter and connection…but my energy was telling a different story.

I was creating the pressure and unintentionally passing it on.

That was the moment I knew something had to change.

Because the way we show up — our mindset, our reactions, our energy —is the way we lead our homes, our relationships, our holidays, and our lives.

Self-awareness gave me the clarity to see my pattern, interrupt it, and choose a new one for my family, one rooted in presence and connection.

But awareness alone doesn’t create change. You have to consciously choose to lead and live differently.

It’s the moment you break outdated patterns by choosing to…

  • Let the tree be decorated with creativity instead of control

  • Let the cookies be fun, not “perfect.”

  • Buy fewer gifts instead of more stress

  • Focus on the laughter happening around you instead of the mess happening on the floor

A Spark of Reflection for You

Here’s the thing I want you to hear:

You don’t have to overhaul the entire holiday season to change it.

Sometimes it only takes one small shift to create a completely different experience for you and the people you love.

So take a breath.

Put your hand on your heart (literally, right now) and ask yourself:

“Who do I want to be this holiday season?

Not:

  • What do I need to buy?

  • What should I host?

  • What will make everyone else happy?

But:

  • Who do I want to be?
And what energy do I want to lead with?”

If you want more peace, create space for it.
If you want more joy, soften your expectations.
If you want more connection, choose meaningful being over constant doing.
If you want more love, show up as the real you, not the stressed version of you.

This is where the pattern breaks. This is where new memories begin.
This is where a different holiday story gets written.

Your One Conscious Choice

If you’re unsure where to begin, start simple:

Choose one thing to release this season and one thing to receive.

Release
a rule, expectation, pressure, or perfectionist “should.”

Receive
a moment, a breath, a connection with a friend, a spark of joy or peace.

One conscious choice.
One shift.

You deserve a holiday that feels good on the inside, not just one that looks good on the outside. And the power to create that begins with you.

Do I still slip back into old habits sometimes—rearranging Tinkerbell, fixing cookies, overthinking gifts. Absolutely! I’m human and a work in progress.

But now I catch myself without judging myself.

Self-awareness breaks the pattern and brings me back to who I want to be.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving!
